Tour Overview:

Visit Majdanek Concentration Camp, one of the best-preserved facilities of its type in Poland. On this full-day excursion from Warsaw you’ll see the prisoner barracks, the gas chamber, crematories, and the mausoleum containing the ashes of the victims.

Tour Description:

Tour the former Nazi concentration camp near Lublin on a day trip from Warsaw. Of the estimated 150,000 people who entered Majdanek, 80,000 prisoners, including 60,000 Jews, were killed. They were shot or exterminated in the camp’s gas chambers. See the prisoner barracks and the mausoleum that contains ashes of the victims.

The museum in Majdanek was founded immediately after the expulsion of the German army from this territory and before the end of WWII. The exposition includes German warehouses, prisoner barracks and baths, the gas chamber, and crematories. The mission of museum is to memorialize this period of Polish and Jewish history and provide education about the German occupation of Poland.

Before its use as a concentration camp Majdanek was a small facility for prisoners of war and later for Jews displaced from south-east Poland. After the German offensive in the Soviet Union the facility was rebuilt to accommodate more than 50,000 prisoners.

From October 1941 to July 1944 about 150,000 people worked in this camp and also in German industrial companies in the Lublin area. Although the number of victims here was smaller than Auschwitz or Belzec, the means of extermination were as cruel or even worse, as execution by firing squad was common practice.
